China Daily, June 12th, (Reporter Zhao Xinying)Recently, the “Volunteer Service and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Seminar and Training Conference”, which promoted China’s participation in international volunteer service development projects through South-South cooperation and “One Belt, One Road”, was held at Beijing Normal University.
The conference seminar section officially released the "China Volunteer Service Economic Value Measurement Report". The report stated: The development of volunteer service is an essential way for China to innovate social governance model and stimulate social vitality. It can bring reform dividends for China's further development. China's Transformation and development are inseparable from voluntary service. Measuring the economic value of volunteer service reflects the exact level of social progress, changes the GDP-oriented evaluation system and promotes the transformation of the social governance model. To develop the cause of voluntary service, we must adhere to the principle of spontaneity. The government should play an auxiliary role in supervision, guidance, and promotion so that volunteer service plays an essential role in promoting social governance innovation and maintaining social harmony and stability.
To accurately understand the development of China's volunteer service and measure the contribution of volunteer service to the economy and society, the China Volunteer Service Federation commissioned Beijing Normal University to carry out the research project of “China Volunteer Service Value Survey”. Professor Tu Qin of Beijing Normal University is the academic director of this research project. The "China Volunteer Service Economic Value Measurement Report" is one of the important achievements of this topic, and is of great significance for measuring the economic value of China's voluntary service. The "China Volunteer Service Economic Value Measurement Report" reflects that the value of volunteer service has a social dimension and a more economic dimension. Measuring the value of volunteerism can reflect the status of volunteerism in the economy and reflect its position in social progress.
The "Volunteer Service and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Symposium" was co-sponsored by Beijing Normal University in conjunction with the United Nations Volunteers Organization, the China International Economic and Technical Exchange Center of the Ministry of Commerce and the Beijing Volunteer Service Federation. The main purpose is to deepen the understanding of friends from all walks of life on the economic value of volunteer service, promote exchanges and cooperation in the field of volunteer service research at home and abroad, summarize the contribution of volunteer service to the realization of the UN sustainable development goals, cultivate international volunteer service talents, and explore new cooperation. Volunteer service experts from the United Nations Volunteers and domestic countries introduced the development trend of global volunteer service, released the research results of China's voluntary service economic value measurement, discussed the hot issues of “One Belt and One Road”, the practice of international volunteer service, and advocated the establishment of “International Volunteer Service Alliance”.
United Nations Volunteers Asia-Pacific Regional Manager Malang Bernier, Deputy Secretary of the Communist Youth League Beijing Committee Guo Wenjie, United Nations Volunteers Organization Policy Expert Margaret Carroll, Beijing Volunteer Service Development Research Association President Lu Shizhen, experts and scholars of Beijing Normal University such as Guan Chenghua, Dean of the Institute of Economics and Resource Management, representatives of Chinese government agencies and representatives of volunteer organizations from all over the country attended the training session.
