Abstract:
Over the past 30 years, the economic value of volunteer work has become more and more significant, and its measurement methodology has also developed rapidly and been widely used around the world. In this paper, the measurement framework is set with an international mainstream approach, and the economic value of volunteer work in Beijing is calculated by suing a large-scale household survey data. The results of the replacement cost approach are as follows: the economic value in 2015 was 8.4 billion Yuan, about 0.36% of local GDP; the economic value will rise to 12.7 billion Yuan or 0.51% of local GDP if volunteer work is divided into professional service and common service and calculated separately, equivalent to Beijing’s added value of primary industry in 2015.
