Abstract:
Based on the survey data of migrant workers in Beijing in 2007, this paper studies the impact of the conversion of migrant workers' social capital on their income level. This study finds that the size of the primitive social capital of migrant workers has no significant impact on the increase of urban income. The newly acquired heterogeneous social capital, that is, the new social capital has a positive impact on income. These conclusions have passed robustness and endogeneity tests on the basis of solving problems such as heteroscedasticity and multicollinearity. The transformation of migrant workers' social capital is not only related to their own income increase and welfare increase, but also become an important factor affecting China's urbanization process: public policies such as government migrant workers' urban employment training and community activities may exceed the direct goal of policy implementation, having the unexpected result of upgrading the new social capital of migrant workers.
