Abstract:
This paper discusses the impact of natural geographical environment on poverty from the perspectives of development economics and economic geography, that is, the poverty effect of natural geographical environment. The panel data of 51 poverty alleviation and development key counties in Gansu Province from 2000 to 2006 are used for empirical analysis. The regression results show that economic and social development can largely alleviate the negative impact of poverty caused by the unfavorable natural geographical environment. However, natural geographical environment constraints are still one of the important factors leading to poverty. Through reasonable policy design, the government can make full use of the existing resources in poverty-stricken areas, which can alleviate the occurrence of poverty to a certain extent.
